CHARLES CHANECO
Digital Media Designer
Born in the Philippines, Charles carried his passion for creative work to Canada and relentlessly pursued a career in Digital Media Design, reaching the heights of designing content for the federal government.
Origins
On the 19th of September in the year 1997, I was born in a village hidden in the recesses of San Fernando, Pampanga, becoming the first-born son in my family. Later on, I attended Infant Jesus Learning Centre, where I eventually discovered my love for creative work and technology. At an early age, I earned awards in classes involving tech and digital media.
Life in Canada
On the 6th of June 2009, my family and I immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba to start our new chapter in life. It took a while to acclimate to the new reality of living in a new, unfamiliar place. Through all the hardships, I stayed focused on my goal of honing my skills and expanding my knowledge in everything relating to tech, computers, digital media, audiovisual design, etc.
I relentlessly worked on many facets of my technical and digital skills. Building the foundation of my video editing skills with Sony Vegas Pro, stick figure animations with Macromedia Flash Pro 8, making digital art using Photoshop CS3, and even made trendy webpages and "hacked" other companies' webpages (mainly HTML/CSS, which was impressive back then)! Over time, I expanded my creative bubble and opened up my doors to learning programs and ways of working. As a result, I was driven to complete the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) program in Sisler High School.
Education
After graduating high school, I moved forward with pursuing a career in Digital Media Design at Red River College, graduating with a 2-year diploma with honours. During my time at Red River College, I served as a student under the Government of Canada’s FSWEP (Federal Student Work Experience Program) for the Canadian Grain Commission. Immediately after graduating college in 2020, I was immediately recruited back into my current position as a Digital Creative Communications Officer. I have since been developing my skills and expanding my experience for 6+ years as a public servant.
Present Day
I went through many chapters in life before getting to where I am, opening up new doors to possibilities and opportunities. Thanks to the opportunities that my career has made possible, I was able to travel a number of times, and have been to some neat places! I have also been getting into outdoor activies such as camping, biking, hiking, and running.
During the pandemic, I also got my best friend, Gelo, and we have also been going on adventures quite a lot!
Most importantly, I met the love of my life a few years ago, and we have been growing together strongly.
Through all the love and support of my significant other, friends, and family, I was able to achieve heights that I never would have thought was possible, back when I was starting out here. There is still much more growth to be done, and things to learn and explore, and I am excited to enter through new, exciting doors in my life.
